Range Weekend with Handon Arms
I had the privilege of being invited to Handon Arms private range weekend. He opened the event for a select few students that he'd vetted and I was approved to go. The dynamic pistol and medical training I received at this range event was elite.
To kick off our range weekend Tammie from Vital Needs went through the Stop The Bleed course. She gave us all the technical information we needed about stop the bleed, even inspected our personal kits to make sure we had the supplies we needed. If any of our kits were lacking she came with fully stocked trauma kits ready for purchase. Once she gave us the knowledge and a demo, it was time to get hands on. We had to pack wounds, apply chest seals and tourniquets until we stopped the bleed. It was my first time taking a stop the bleed course and its a class I will probably take annually.
Once we finished our medical training it was range time. Before we went to the range Instructor Handon gave us a safety briefing. The large outdoor range consisted of three different sections. On section 1 of the range we worked on the fundamentals of static shooting on paper targets. Then he got us moving linearly shooting moving forwards and backward, next we worked on shooting with lateral movement. Each step of the way Instructor Handon and assistant instructor Baker took the time to teach us how to assess our targets and better understand the inefficiency of our grip, stance, or movement. Later on day one we moved to section 2 and worked on moving and shooting at steel targets.
Day two was a chance to put all that we'd learned together in section 3 of the range which had three different types of reactive steel targets. This gave us a chance to challenge ourselves with not just moving and shooting but shot placement as well because if you don't hit the steel targets in the right zone they won't fall. We had some competitions going to see who could clear the dueling trees, pepper poppers and Texas star that fastest. After some friendly completion in section 3 we went back to section 2 and did some rifle shooting. We shot from behind barricades working on trigger and safety discipline as we switched from different kneeling, leaning, crouching and prone shooting positions. Lastly we worked on moving from cover to cover and engaging targets accurately and quickly.
I highly recommend this dynamic pistol training. I had a great time and learned a lot from every drill. If you have the privilege of being invited to Handon Arms private range events make sure you come ready to work! The dynamic pistol training and more I received at this weekend range event was elite and will absolutely help you take your shooting performance to the next level.
